Background
Our new modified Lumberjack has a much softer appearance and is aimed to cover a wider spectrum of waves. Gone is the straight chopped square tail now replaced by a traditional rounded square already favoured by most of our team riders on their high performance comp boards. This new shape sits between your typical high performance narrow board and the original Lumberjack which was a wider small wave option at 19.5 to 19.75″ wide.
The Lumberjack 2 produces genuine high performance with typical measurements 6′ x 19 x 2 7/16 around 29 litres volume, 5′ 11 x 18 7/8 x 2 3/8, and 5′ 10 x 18 3/4 x 2 5/16 @ 28 ltrs volume. On the water the undercarriage features a shallower single to double concave at 1/8th to a 1/4 of an inch. This provides significantly more paddle power and more importantly faster acceleration from the takeoff. I am convinced that the 3/8 of an inch single concave trialed in our Reactor model has its limitations for all except a small band of very elite surfers. Take that much thickness out of any surfboard and your faced with an uphill battle to paddle. The double barrel still gives lift but also direction as per the vee bottom and here the raised stringer line acts as an axis to initiate roll from rail to rail.
With the narrower profile we now have slightly more nose and tail rocker. The rails are a forgiving soft but extremely thin and edgy thru the tail section for speed and control.
The Favored size range is 1 to 2 meters with a quad set up included to enhance small wave performance. Larger versions will be available as a custom for those seeking more volume.
This new template also lends itself to the addition of some extra width and volume to target 2 to 4 ft waves . Our stock 5′ 10″ is 19 5/8 ” by 2.5 with a 12″ up tail measurement of 15.5 inches. Two demos are available for testing. Just give one of the shops a call to book a board. This new model is on display at the Frankston store.
