Sundays surf forecast came in spot on with 1-3’ more wind swell than swell with a stiff southerly wind at Crunchy Point. It was good enough for the younger age groups but the more advanced struggled in the conditions.
Once more we had a turn out of about 50 competitors. A few of the regulars were still at the Island for a Surfing Vic contest and but we had some new faces who all performed well with some making finals.
The U9’s and U11’s surfed out the back at Crunchy on the low tide at the start with the U9’s in particular surprising me with their performance. Will Holman was ecstatic at his first win in the U9 boys and Sarah Hickson completed her third win of the season for U9 girls. Jake Pancic and Indy Lucas won the U11 divisions. Brynee Clarke won a closely contested U13 girls and the U13 boys decided as a collective to postpone their final to the next event. They were not impressed at the deteriorating surf conditions. The U15’s were given the option to postpone as well but as they had not been in the water they decided to have a go anyway. The girls probably wished they had postponed but as we know the cream always rises to the top and Sasha Taylor was a convincing winner. In the Boys
U15 final they ended up at Summer Crunch and we saw the best turns of the event put down by James Easton on a borrowed board winning convincingly.
Once more thanks to our committee, the parents and kids who pitched in to help make the day happen. Let’s cross our fingers for a final event with good waves in two weeks time.
We are still waiting on some images from the contest and will post them when they turn up.
