Surprisingly I ventured up to Noosa for the 1st time in june. The surf ranged from 2 to 5 ft, with the bigger waves at Ti Tree being of excellent quality. I rode my 5ft 11inch by 20in by 2.5in Boss and although it performed awesome it was handicapped by the overly large tail area on anything bigger than 3ft.
The modifications I have made to the lastest version see the dimensions coming down to 5ft 10in by 19.75in by 2.5in and a second demo at 2.4 inch thickness.
The new template or outline was honed from a combination of my old Stinger (10y.o.) and the original Boss. The new edgy flyer helps set up a much sharper rail through to the half moon swallow which as you can see from the pics supplied has been around since 1967. In fact Phil and I both rode an 8ft Merrin demo surfboard called the Growler at Greenmount point during January school holidays of 1968.
I presume straight swallow tails came about not long after. Governed by less width and reduced thickness (5’10″x19.5×2.4) the second Demo Boss is lower in volume to suit waves with more punch and power. This one also targets small waves for younger surfers with ability. The rocker line and rails are the same.
The new Boss will be available shortly in lengths from 5ft 9in to 6ft 6in and thereafter as a custom. See Triggs for a ride on his Demos.
