Spirit of Akasha: Live Music and Film Event

About the Movie

The mystic of the ocean is channeled through music and film in a celebration of the classic surf movie Morning of the Earth, 40 years since its premiere.

Albert Falzon’s 1972 work forever changed the way we think about surfing, offering the possibility to escape everyday life to fulfill a dream.

This passion still prevails today, and is captured in a new surf film, Spirit of Akasha, featuring surfers Stephanie Gilmore, Beau Young, Mick Fanning, Kelly Slater and Tom Curren riding single fin boards with compositions from musicians including Grouplove, Ben Howard, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and The Windy Hills forming the original score.

Coming to life in Hamer Hall with some of the musicians who contributed to its original soundtrack, this live film and music experience pays homage to the enduring spirit of surf culture.

Accompanying the screening are live performances from Andrew Kidman and The Windy Hills, Mick Turner, Oliver Mann, Jack River, Machine Translations and The Sandpebbles in this special music and film experience.

A replica Morning of the Earth single fin will be given away along with other items including some gear from Trigger BRos.
